Over 200 in Attendance at Retirement Planning Conference

Rebecca Fortier
Special Events Facilitator, Office of Special Programs

Before we retire, it’s important to learn about the path to help us get there. At the 27th Annual Retirement Planning Conference on Saturday, April 20th, roughly 200 UIC employees were in attendance to learn about the tools needed to prepare for retirement. Robert Crouch hosted the morning conference offering informative sessions by representatives of SURS, Fidelity, TIAA CREFF, SUAA, and UIC’s own Payroll & Benefits and Human Resources. The yearly event is produced in partnership with University Human Resources and has served many UIC employees and their families as they prepare for the future.

Honoring Our Retirees at the 37th Annual Retirement Luncheon

Rebecca Fortier
Special Events Facilitator, Office of Special Programs

On Monday, March 11th, we honored this past year’s retirees at UIC’s 37th Annual Retirement Luncheon, held at the UIC Forum. Robert Crouch played master of ceremonies as he was joined by Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares, the Vice Chancellors and University Administrators to honor our retirees for their many years of service to the University. More than 600 employees retired during the 2011-2012 academic year. This brought us the largest luncheon in recent years with 151 retirees and over 250 of their family members and UIC friends. It was a joyful afternoon as we celebrated their accomplishments and wished them happiness in their future endeavors.

Stated plainly, “The new factors will result in a lower monthly benefit payment for those retiring after the [July 1] 2012 effective date. ” According to SURS “It is estimated that the monthly annuity benefit paid from the Money Purchase Formula will be reduced on average by 7% to 8%.”
